Makeba Nana Pokua Boateng, APR, USPAP-ISA is a seasoned Public Relations Consultant, Independent Researcher–Curator, Archivist, and qualified Personal Property Appraiser, with over 35 years of experience across the creative, fashion, and cultural sectors. Her practice spans advocacy, valuation, documentation, and the strategic elevation of African textiles and fashion heritage.

Makeba is the Founder and Director of Fashion Forum Africa, a pioneering non-profit organisation committed to safeguarding and promoting Africa’s fashion legacies through research, exhibitions, and education. Under her leadership, the Forum serves as a platform for indigenous textile communities, iconic designers, and emerging talents alike, shaping critical conversations around sustainability, cultural identity, and innovation in African fashion.

As a USPAP-qualified personal property appraiser, Makeba brings a rare and trusted lens to the valuation of African cultural assets, with a particular focus on textiles, garments, and historical design pieces. Through her appraisal firm, Boaten Personal Property Appraisals, she provides expert valuations and cultural consultancy to institutions, collectors, and estates.

Her archival and curatorial contributions include working with the Victoria and Albert Museum, notably for the acclaimed Africa Fashion exhibition, as well as collaborations with respected designers and cultural practitioners across the continent. A recognised voice in heritage preservation, she has authored and contributed to various publications, including features for Marie Claire Nigeria UNESCO amongst others.

Makeba holds qualifications from institutions such as the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Victoria and Albert Museum, and Middlesex University, alongside professional accreditation from the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and Institute of Public Relations Ghana (APR). She currently serves as Treasurer of the Ghana Culture Forum and is an active member of several cultural and professional networks.

  • Strategic Partner to the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum, London: FFA was instrumental in securing the presence of Ghanaian fashion legend Kofi Ansah in the V&A’s landmark Africa Fashion exhibition (July 2022
  • Thought Leadership: Makeba Boateng was a speaker at ITC SheTrades, presenting insights on Ghana’s fashion market, consumer behavior, and emerging trends.
  • Cultural Exchange: In partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, FFA facilitated a study exchange for the Ghana Bead Society to China, supporting knowledge transfer in jewelry craftsmanship.
